Went home last weekend and discovered my old DC Comics 'Gen13' submission pack and realised to my horror that I haven't drawn a comic page since I was 26...I'm toying with the idea of redrawing the whole thing, to see how much I've moved on, anyhow, I've done a bit of sketchbook work updating some of the character stuff from the sample pack and I'm pretty pleased with the way some of them turned out, it's just a bit of idle doodling but I thought I'd better put something up to show I'm not entirely apathetic at the minute!

And you know what? I'm not remotely happy with it! I can't remember the last time I was so unenthusiastic about colouring something in, at the moment I seem to be torn between doing something in a traditional comic style and something more rendered and painterly, consequently leaving me with an image that's all over the shop. I think the next thing I will do is a digital painting as it's clearly playing on my mind!

I know I should have coloured this in by now, but after much scrutiny I decided I wasn't really happy with the inking, I put far too much detail in, so when scaled down it looks far too dense, so I redid it and stripped a bit of the detail out, I'm a lot happier with this version and the coloured version will be up on monday. I swear!

Well, inked this up last night and I'm quite pleased, I'm definitely making progress on the inking front, this was primarily inked with a Hunt 107, with the odd assist from a Rotring technical pen, it's a bit scratchy here and there but i think this is due to my quill not being quite 'broken in'. Also tweaked it in photoshop so it's less lopsided. I'll start the colouring tonight, but it's more than likely it won't be up til next tuesday, due to me being off work from thursday onwards. Hope you like it.

for not getting something up here sooner, had a hectic few weeks of...well...getting blind drunk. I did manage to get this done at the tail end of last week though and it's a character I've been messing about with for ages now, I originally intended to build it in 3D and sculpt it in mudbox, but due to my growing realisation that 3D no longer interests me remotely, I'm not going to do it at the minute, so I'm putting it to bed for now. I've already buggered up the inking, but I'm going to redo it on the lightbox at some point this week, so come back later! Ta.

even though it has it's problem areas, I'm pretty happy with it. It's the first image I've done from start to finish in over two years, would have finished it sooner, but developed eyestrain midweek due to solidly playtesting our current Nintendo DS game over the week, so I tried to take it easy in the evening. I quite fancy recoloring it in a more cel shaded, less rendered style, may or may not do it later in the week as I quite fancy having a bash at an actual digital painting too.

Finished off the inking after watching the final Veronica Mars *sob*. As usual I'm not particularly happy with the result, but i'm yet to find something i'm really comfortable with to use for inking. Consequently this was inked with a dip pen (Hunt 102 and 104), brush, fibre tip, Rotring technical and art pens. I'm beginning to get more comfortable with the dip pen and brush, but i need lots more practice, so basically I'm still finding my feet. Next up, colour! Ooh!

After a weekend spent solely watching Veronica Mars series 3 and the most tepid and lethargic perfomance by a Manchester United side EVER in a derby, I somehow managed to find the time to squeeze these two drawings out, first one is a warm up, second is a hopefully better version of the dreadful cowboy image i uploaded last week. I'm currently 'inking' (or ruining, depending on your point of view) the second image and will upload that tomorrow. Will the forty quid I spent on pens (Rotring Art Pens E and EF! And some terrible Staedtler pens I will never use again...)in Fred Aldous be worth it? I'd imagine not...
Fascinating fact of the day: This will only ever be updated in the week due to not having the internet at home. Woah.

and that there's a million things wrong with it, but it's a warmup piece i did last night whilst watching a western for research for a pin up i'm actually doing. As that is mostly biro doodles for now, I'm putting this up anyway. I'm particularly embarrassed by the arms...I may do a 'proper' illustration at the weekend, just to show i'm not entirely lame...
